It is characterized by the River Soča, which has a distinct emerald green colour, is considered to be one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe. A renowned fish lives in the River Soča – the Soča Trout, which attracts fishermen from all over the world. The mountainous landscape above the River Soča was the scene of the largest mountain battle in history during World War I.

LAG is part of the Julian Alps Biosphere Reserve, which is the first biosphere reserve in Slovenia.

It is an intergovernmental research programme that aims to establish a global network of biosphere reserves which strive to uphold the balance between people and nature, biodiversity and sustainable development and upkeep of cultural values.

The soul of our area are people, who live, work and create.

Mountain farming is a way of life, a harsh reality of survival, and a building stone of the Park’s exceptional cultural landscape.

Local inhabitants offer high-quality products made with love. The most important local products are Tolminc cheese and Bovec cheese. They are registered as Protected Designation of Origin.

The mountainous part of Triglav national Park comprises wild, diverse and adaptable but fragile and vulnerable nature.

Main goals are:

  • Create new jobs
  • Improve competitiveness
  • Improve enterprise knowledge and skills
