ADRAMA – Association for the Development of the Autonomous Region of Madeira


The ADRAMA area comprehends 6 councils, 3 in the North part of the island and 3 in the west and south part. This gives ADRAMA Intervention Zone a unique perspective of Madeira Island. In the North we have a more greener nature all the way to the sea. In the councils of Porto Moniz, São Vicente and Santana we the strong presence of the Laurissilva forest, that in our days represents 20% of the island and has recognize in 1999 by UNESCO as natural heritage. The laurissilva Foresty deserves by himself a visit to Madeira. In the other 3 councils Ribeira Brava, Ponta do Sol and Calheta situated at the west/south part are more developed and by themselves are responsible for more than 70% of the population of the Intervention Zone. There are less presence of the Nature and of the Laurissilva Forest. The north and the south complements each other and there are two parts of the same place.

  1. To transform the Intervention Zone into a sustainable territory of employment and growth, by strengthening competitiveness, differentiating quality products for sector innovation;
  2. Ensure territorial cohesion by promoting the quality of life of the population and the enhancement of the rural heritage.
